Baxter State Park
Maine's highest peak, Mt. Katahdin, is impressive even from a distance. From a closer vantage point, it's even more awe-inspiring. If you've ever been to Baxter State Park, you know why you NEED to go back there. Fortunately for those who live in the Lincoln area, Baxter State Park is close enough for a day trip.
Whether you want to climb to the summit of Katahdin, 5,267 feet above sea level, or take a shorter hike, there are more than 200 miles of marked trails in the park.
Wildlife abounds, so keep your eyes open. Depending on the location and the time of year, you could see a moose or deer. Fishing is allowed in some areas of the park.
